CLASS 10 | APRIL 17 |ASSESSING STUDENT WORK

CLASS FOCUS

This class will focus on assessment of student work. Conventionally, assessment (which seems like an overly fussy way of describing grading) takes place through crits and projects handed into the instructor. How the work is evaluated is not always clear, much less how the evaluation benefits the student. In this class we'll look at ssessment tools as part of course design methodology that begins with setting up course objectives, next considering how the educator will know if the objectives where met, and from that information  designing the course so that success is achieved.

PRESENTATION AND WORKSHOP

Presentation by Stacie Rohrbach on Assessing Student Work, following by workshop in using assessment tools.

ASSIGNMENT:  DESIGNING A LEARNING EXPERIENCE

Last week's assignment was to develop a course title and at least 3 learning outcomes (I know there was some confusion about outcomes versus objectives. Outcomes are what will be evidence that's observable that learning has taken place. Some of you may need to take another stab at these.)

In this next assignment, you will design a project for this course.

For this project, dentify and include the following:

- Prior knowledge vs Knowledge After Course

- Project Learning Objectives

- Define Instructional Activities

- Project Learning Outcomes

- Performance Measures

- Rubric for Learning Objectives

A DRAFT of this assignment is due Tuesday, April 24 by 9am
